There are two or three ways that I curl my hair these days. The traditional clipped curling iron, the curling wand, and hot rollers. Hot rollers are by far the quickest and less damaging method to get the long lasting curls that I love! It took me a few different sets of hot rollers and several weeks of trying to finally perfect them, but once I did they were my favorite way to curl. After three years of using rollers, I have finally found that perfect set and mastered my curl!
Hot Roller Tips:
- The clips are EVERYTHING! Like I said, I have had several different hot roller sets and they are not all equal. While the ones with the fancy big clips like this one (I actually owned this one and it gave awful creases) look more modern, I recommend going with one that has the old school clips like my current set. These leave no creases and hold the roller much tighter than the others!
- Start rolling the hair around the roller mid way instead of from the bottom. It is so much easier!
- Be sure to smoothly tuck the ends in when rolling so that the curl comes out smooth.
- Pop the rollers in before you do your makeup. It not only keeps your hair out of your face, but also helps you get ready much faster!
I usually wash my hair at night so that it can air dry. I have noticed a huge improvement in my hair’s health by laying off of the blow dryer! I use Moroccanoil’s light treatment on my damp hair at night to give it some extra shine and moisture.
The next morning, I brush through my hair and spray some dry shampoo throughout for a little added texture. I have been using this Dove dry shampoo for a while now and love it. Plus it smells so clean!
Time to start rolling! Once the rollers heat up (I use this set), I begin with the very front section of hair. This may be the most important piece simply because it frames the face. I roll this 1-2 inch section back away from my face so it sits right on top of my head. See the video of me actually doing this above for a visual! For the remainder of my hair I roll each 1-2 inch section under. After much trial and error, I have found that this is the best method for my hair type. It helps to add body, volume, and looks much thicker when rolled this way.
Let the rollers cool completely before removing. I usually do my makeup and by the time I am finished they are cool and ready to take out. I take all of the rollers out and then brush through my hair to give it a smooth and full look! I spray a little texture spray or hair spray and I am good to go!
These curls will last me all day and make for a beautiful relaxed wave for that second day hair!
