Winter can be quite the bear. Between the dry skin and lack of sunshine I think it begins to take a toll on everyone about this time of year. Now that I think of it, it probably has a lot to do with the holidays being over as well. At least it does with me! So today I am sharing five things that are helping us get back on track!

Do a deep clean

I’ve been channeling Emily Ley (my version of Marie Kondo) every chance I get this New Year! There really is no better feeling than knowing you are free of extra clutter. It frees up your mind, your time, and in many ways your life! Luckily, our apartment is all of 800 square feet so it is pretty realistic to get through the whole thing in a couple of weekends. I am actually down to one more space! I can’t tell you the joy that overwhelms me when I think about finishing the clean out with that final area of our apartment. But, there is a reason that I left the pantry for last – it’s our most cluttered area – shoot props galore! The advice that I took when starting was to start with the smallest area and work your way up. That was the best strategy for someone like myself! Quite honestly, it became addicting watching the giveaway and trash piles fill up!

Start making little changes

This could be drinking more water, eating more veggies, doing the dishes every night before bed… You get the point. Anything that helps you feel accomplished throughout your day! For me that is the key – feeling accomplished. If I feel accomplished at the end of my day, I’ve done something right. Some little changes that I am making are drinking 60 ounces of water a day, limiting sugar intake (slowly working my way up to the cutout), running five days a week, and straightening our apartment every night before bed.

Get back to a routine

So far, this has been the most effective way to get myself back on track and feeling reset! When the holidays roll around, especially from my birthday to Christmas, I throw all routine out the window. I love having a few weeks where I just go with the flow – eat what I want, exercise when I want, sleep when I want! These few weeks seems to be just enough time for me to begin craving a routine again! I went more in depth about this in my Reflections & Resolutions post last week, but I am loving the routine I am getting into right now. I feel like I am doubling my productivity already!

Try Vitamin C

I don’t know about you, but I desperately miss the sun, so I’m trying this little trick along with you! It seems like every article I read these days says to take vitamin C to boost your mood in the Winter. I just bought a bottle of vitamin C gummies so let’s find out!

Plan some fun activities

Once New Year’s Eve passes it can seem like there isn’t anything fun to look forward to, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Instead of feeling lost in a post holiday rut, give yourself something to look forward to! It can be an unexpected movie night, a weekend getaway, or just a long walk. Regardless… Plan it, look forward to it, and enjoy it! Michael and I have been planning our workouts together each day and also have a couple of trips that we are looking forward to next month.
