Focusing On: Wardrobe Staples
I mentioned in my first post of the year, 26 Things in Year 26, that one of my main goals was to focus on quality and investment pieces when it comes to my wardrobe. As a means to achieve this goal I sat down and wrote out what I should be filling my closet with, from color palette to the actual pieces. Having this in writing helps me tremendously! I have found myself shopping less frequently, but when I do it is for a purpose and not just because a store is having a sale. Life lesson – Don’t buy something just because it is on sale. There will always be sales!
My own personal style has become very consistent over the last three years. This makes me comfortable to say that I have finally landed on my own style. And even more comfortable to know that the pieces that I invest in will be pieces and styles that I wear for years to come.
Neutral Palette: Meaning white, cream, lighter shades of pink, lighter shades of blue, light ginghams, light stripes, florals.
Feminine and flattering silhouettes.
Details such as ruffles, bows, gold or pearl buttons.
When it comes to coats, I am trying to be practical for where we live. I am focusing on a classic trench (obsessed with this Cuyana version), my Barbour jacket, a wool coat, a puffer jacket for more casual days, and blazers.
My favorite category! In terms of dresses, I am mainly focusing on finding the most flattering cuts for my body type. Some styles that I am narrowing in on are shirt dresses, midi length hems, white dresses for Spring and Summer, dresses with bow detail, the perfect little black dress, the perfect little red dress, and of course a few Lilly’s.
This is one of the categories that I am in search of the most detailed pieces; whether it be a ruffled collar or a beautiful pearl button front. I am looking for a mixture of oxfords, classic white blouses, silk, cable knit, crisp button ups, cashmere, striped tees, casual pullovers, and vests.
This is one area that I can make a major change when it comes to spending. Too often I buy a pair of pants on sale just because they were a good deal, only to get them home and never wear them! Now I am focusing on what I know I already love; dark wash skinny jeans, white jeans, a crisp white pant, pleated skirts, tasteful mini skirts, and chino shorts.
I am keeping it fairly simple in this department. Loafers, classic pumps, Tory Burch riding boots, Hunter boots, Jack Rogers, and Tory flats. What more could a girl need, right?!
When it comes to accessorizing, I tend to stay minimal. These are the things that I have come find as staples in my wardrobe; a beautiful clutch, easy cross body or shoulder bag, roomy work bag, a gold watch, pearl studs, a quality pair of sunglasses, cashmere shawl, and silk scarves.
